Okotoks Crime Watch Notice

This is a fan out message from Okotoks Area Range Patrol and Crime Watch Association:

It has been brought to our attention that at least one local person has been called by someone looking for donations for Okotoks Crime Watch. Please be advised that these calls are not coming from Okotoks Area Range Patrol and Crime Watch association and as we are not aware of an organization called Okotoks Crime Watch, the calls are most likely a scam.

If you receive a similar call, please be very careful not to give out any personal information and do not make a donation. If you can discretely obtain any details about the callers name, address or phone number and/or have information from call display, please contact Melanie Skidmore at the Okotoks RCMP detachment at 403-938-7046 with that information. Again, we stress do not give out any of your personal information, do not make a donation and do not hesitate to just hang up the phone.

If you have received a call and made a donation please contact Melanie Skidmore at the Okotoks RCMP Detachment at 403-938-7046. If you did not make a donation but have any information, please contact Melanie Skidmore at the Okotoks Detachment.

Here are a couple of things you might consider when donating to Charities:

Fund Raisers are often involved in phone and other special fund raising campaigns. These fund raisers often receive a fairly large percent of the funds. If you contact the charity yourself, directly and make a donation, more than likely all the funds will go to the charity.

You can confirm the Charitable status and obtain the address and a lot of other information, including financial information about a charity from Canada Revenue Agency. The following is a link to a page on their web site where you can search for the charity of your choice.

Again we want to stress that Okotoks Area Range Patrol and Crime Watch Association is not soliciting donations and if you get a call looking for a donation, please do not donate and do not divulge any personal information. For that mater, it is worth reminding everyone that you should always be very careful when you receive phone, email or other solicitations. Fraudsters are very good at tricking people into believing that they are from a well known reputable organizations when in fact they are criminals.

Tree Recycling

The Lake at Heritage Pointe Owners Association will have no recycling program this 2011/2012 season.

Once again, The Town of Okotoks will have a drop-off at the 24 hour community grass & leaf area located next to the Recycling Center.

**Please ensure all decorations and screws have been removed and the tree is not in a plastic bag.**
